The Police Department is dedicated to the youth of this community and allocates resources to protecting and enriching their lives. The department’s "Youth Officer" works directly with schools, offering assistance and counseling to students in all aspects of their lives.
"Drug Abuse Resistance Education" or D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. The program helps children by building their self-esteem and teaching them about making positive and healthy decisions.
The Police Department has been part of the D.A.R.E. program since 1994. The "D.A.R.E. Officer" teaches the program to local students. Every year over 200 students from Central School, Murray Avenue School, and Sts John and Paul School graduate from the D.A.R.E. Program.
To learn more about the program, visit the D.A.R.E. website at www.dare.com
