Fire Department FAQ's

What type of fire department is the TMFD?

The Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD) is a combination department. This means we are
comprised of volunteer and career firefighters.

How many firefighters are there?

TMFD has 60 volunteer and 14 career firefighters.

Where is the firehouse located?

TMFD Headquarters is located at 205 Weaver Street across from Sts. John and Paul School.

How do I contact the fire department?

For emergencies dial 911 or call 834-2100. For non-emergency calls use 834-2101. To contact the chief or
leave a message dial 834-2438.

How do I determine which Fire District I live in?

Many residents mistakenly believe they live in Larchmont because of their mailing address. If you live in
any of the unincorporated areas you live within the Town of Mamaroneck Fire District. Residents with
automatic alarm systems should also check with their alarm company to ensure that the alarm company
has the correct fire department phone number. If you have any further questions please call 834-2438.

How do I become a volunteer?

Down load the application, stop by the firehouse or call 834-2438 and we will send you an application.

What training do I need to join?

None. We will provide all the training needed.

What kind of people volunteer?

Our members are a diverse lot, 18 to 60 plus years old, both men and women students, computer
specialists, plumbers, lawyers, electricians, bankers, brokers, career firefighters, medics, police officers,
business owners and managers.

What would I get out of volunteering?

A tremendous sense of camaraderie, accomplishment and usefulness. We will provide you with firefighting
gear and training. In addition, you have the opportunity to learn more advance skills in areas such as
hazardous materials, CPR, first aid, defibrillation, accident victim extrication, water and ice rescue, aerial
ladder operation, search and rescue techniques and arson investigation, just to name a few.

If that is not enough, how about some other benefits such as a pension, disability and life insurance. Plus
there’s the family pass to the Hommocks Pool.

How can I observe the Fire Department in action?

Residents are welcome to attend drill and training sessions to observe professionalism of the TMFD. Just
call 834-2438 to schedule an appointment.

Why does that loud horn always wake me up?

All firefighters are issued pagers for emergency notifications; however, it is imperative that we have a back
up system to notify our members. The horn also allows members that might be working in their yard or are
otherwise away from their pager to know the location of emergencies. Since 1997 the TMFD has
drastically reduced the amount of times the horn is blown. To accommodate our neighbors we only use the
horn for calls that require a lot of manpower.
