1. What are the Court office hours?
A. The Court office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
2. When is Court in session?
A. Court is in session every Monday (except holidays) at 6:30 pm for criminal, traffic, parking, civil and landlord tenant matters. Small Claims session 3d Monday of each month at 7:30pm. Civil/Small Claim/Landlord-Tenant session 1st Thursday of each month at 9:30 am.
3. Can I answer a traffic summons through the mail?
A. Tickets that are not misdemeanors may be answered by mail as follows:
1. Guilty plea to ticket as written - sign back of ticket, return to court before appearance date on ticket. Bill will follow, appearance in court not required.
2. Not Guilty plea - Within 48 hours of issuance date, sign back of ticket (right hand side) and return to Court. No appearance in Court until notification of trial date.
3. Guilty with explanation - Appear in Court on date indicated on summons.
(Note:
Defendants are responsible for notifying Court of any address changes.
Jr license drivers may require appearance in court with parent/guardian.
In certain circumstances the court may require your appearance. Court will notify you.
4. What is the fine schedule for traffic violations?
A. Fines are based on individual's driving record and are imposed by the Judges. Personal/business checks are NOT accepted for payments on traffic violations. Enclose self-addressed stamped envelope for receipt.
5. What happens if a traffic summons is not answered?
A. Summons' not answered, fines not paid or non-appearance for traffic trials result in DMV being notified to suspend NYS drivers licenses or privileges to drive in NYS. Driver's stopped and found driving with a suspended license will be charged with a misdemeanor and must appear in Court.
6. What is the point schedule for traffic infractions?
A. Points are imposed by the Department of Motor Vehicles, not the Court. Contact DMV for the schedule of points.
7. Can I pay a parking summons through the mail?
A. Parking payments are accepted through the mail. Complete back of ticket and return with payment. Indicate summons number on check. Personal checks accepted for parking tickets only. Do Not Send Cash.
8. What if I want to plead guilty with explanation or not guilty to a parking summons?
A. You must appear in Court on date indicated on summons to enter these pleas. Notification of not guilty trials will be sent in mail.
9. What is the penalty schedule for unpaid parking tickets?
A. Penalty schedule is printed on back of parking summons. Penalties are imposed 30 days after issuance date of ticket and increase every 30 days thereafter.
