1. How do I obtain a parking permit?
Parking permits are issued on a yearly basis beginning on June 1 and expire May 31.
Permits are sold to residents only, based upon availability. All applications must be
completed and returned with a check, a copy of the vehicle registration and a stamped
self-addressed envelope. If the registration does not show the current address, proof of
residency must be supplied (utility bill, bank statement etc.).
2. What is required to obtain a marriage license?
Marriage Licenses are issued from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. To
obtain a marriage license applicants must be at least 18 years of age and show proper
identification. Two forms of ID are required - an officially issued photo ID (driver’s license,
non-driver’s ID, passport, etc.) and an original or certified copy of your birth certificate. If applicants have a social security number, under New York State law it must be provided. If either party has been married before, they must show the original or a certified copy of the divorce papers. The license fee is $40. The license takes effect 24 hours from time of issuance and is valid for 60 days.
3. What are the requirements for a dog license?
All dogs over 4 months old must be licensed. The dog has to have been vaccinated.
Proof of vaccination and spaying or a neutering certificate must be shown. Fees vary:
$7.50 for a dog that has been spayed or neutered, $15.50 for a dog that has not been
spayed or neutered.
4. Do I need a permit to have a garage sale?
Permits are required to have a garage sale. An application must be filled out in the Town
Clerk’s office. There is a fee of $20. The Town Clerk’s office will supply 4 signs that can
be posted only in the Town. They can be put up 48 hours prior to the date of the sale and
must be taken down 24 hours after the sale is over. A resident is allowed to have only one
Garage sale per calendar year for up to 3 consecutive days.
5. What is required to obtain a handicapped parking permit?
Handicapped permits are issued to Town residents only. An application can be obtained
in the Town Clerk’s office or by mail. This must be filled out by the applicant and returned
with a doctor’s note stating the disability and the length of the disability.
6. How do I obtain copies of various information from the Town of Mamaroneck?
Anyone requesting information must fill out a Freedom of Information application in the
Town Clerk’s office.
7. What is required to obtain a New York State Hunting or Fishing License?
New York State residents must show an old hunting license or a training course certificate
and a New York State Driver’s license. For a fishing license only a New York State Driver’s
license is required.
8. When are Town Board Meetings held?
Town Board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 8:15 PM
in the Town Center Courtroom unless otherwise posted, with the exception of July and
August, when there is only one meeting held, call 381-7870 to check the dates.
9. What are the requirements to have a Block Party?
At least one week prior to the party, a request must be put in writing with the date, time and location and a rain date. Signatures of at least 50% of the neighbors must be obtained. When approved, the Town Clerk’s office will make arrangements for the Highway
Department to drop off sawhorses to block off the designated areas.
10. How would I obtain birth and/or death records?
Requests for copies of birth or death records must be made in writing by a family member
or by an attorney on their letterhead. The birth or death must have occurred in the Town of Mamaroneck. There is a $10 fee for each certified copy.
11. If I install a home security system, is a permit required?
Yes, an Alarm Permit application must be filled out and filed with the Town Clerk’s office.
There is a $25 annual permit fee. False alarm fees are as follows:

12. How do I register to vote?
A Voter Registration Form may be obtained from either the Town Clerk’s office or the
Board of Elections in White Plains.
