Marriage licenses are issued through the Town Clerk’s office on weekdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Couples who intend to be married in New York State must apply for a marriage license in person. The cost for a marriage license is $40.
In order to obtain a marriage license, you must:
Provide two forms of identification:
(a) An officially-issued photo ID (driver’s license, non-driver’s ID, passport, etc…)
(b) Your original birth certificate or certified copy
(foreign birth certificates must be in certified translation form)
For those applicants previously married &ndash a copy of the decree of divorce, dissolution of marriage or death certificate the original or a certified copy of the divorce papers.
Although the license is issued immediately, the marriage ceremony may not take place for 24 hours thereafter. The license is then valid for 60 days thereafter.
