How Do I … > Know if I need a plumbing permit?

A plumbing permit is required to install or replace:

  • Plumbing fixtures such as sinks, bathtubs, showers, water closets, water heaters, garbage disposals, and furnaces

  • Water lines, storm or sanitary drainage lines or vent lines

  • Furnaces

  • Hot water heaters

A plumbing permit is not required to:

  • Repair existing plumbing fixtures (as long as re-piping is not required)

The Building Department, located on the second floor of the Town Center (Rm 208), is open weekdays:

Winter Hours:
Labor Day through Memorial Day
8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Summer Hours:
Memorial Day through Labor Day
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
