How Do I … > Apply for local tax exemptions?

There are several local exemptions that residents can apply for:

  • Senior Citizens' Exemption – you may be eligible (on a sliding scale basis) if you are a senior citizen 65 years of age or older by December 31, and meet income limitations.

  • Disability Exemption – you may qualify if you can provide documentation of a disability, and meet income limitations

  • Alternative Veterans' Exemption – you may be entitled if you are an American veteran during a qualified period of war.

  • Cold War Veterans' Exemption – you may qualify if you did not meet the "qualified periods
    of war" required for the Alternative Veterans' Exemption, but served during the
    Cold War period.

You might also be interested in The New York State’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program.
It provides a partial exemption from school property taxes for all residential, owner
occupied, primary residences.
